<image:title>Blog - TELL YOUR MANAGER: Massage is good for unit morale!</image:title>
<image:caption>The ANA projects that 500,000 RNs will retire by 2022, while the need for nurses in the US will rise by 1.1 million. Since the average cost of training a new grad is $50,000 and replacing a retired nurse costs between 75% and 125% of the retiree’s annual salary, nurse retention will be critical. Studies show that group cohesion is improved by good collective experiences. Therapeutic massage can accomplish two things that will dramatically improve your work environment. First, it can relieve the common pains suffered by nurses: neck, shoulders, back, knees, and feet. This can extend your career in the long run and make it more enjoyable today. Second, if the entire unit recieves massage therapy, common bonds of pain relief and increased mobility will create a tighter team ethos that may well result in better patient outcomes. It may sound trite but it is quite possible that “Nurses who are healed together, heal others together.” Suggest it to your manager. Who knows?</image:caption>

<image:title>FNMT - Trigger Point Release</image:title>
<image:caption>A trigger point is a knot in the muscle that refers pain, itching, burning, even ticklishness, to other muscles. Often, this therapy relieves pain by working on areas which seem unrelated. Few people know that the major cause of trigger points is their daily activity, not physical trauma or stress.</image:caption>

<image:title>FNMT - Assessment</image:title>
<image:caption>Goniometers play a major role in objectively assessing joint mobility and setting therapeutic goals. Tight muscles can restrict joint movement, which, in turn, causes further tightening. We not only strive to return an injured joint to its normal range of motion, we make sure the relationship between symmetrical joints is relatively equal. This is significant for increasing strength.</image:caption>

<image:title>FNMT - Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation</image:title>
<image:caption>This modality stretches muscles beyond their current active range. Modalities include active resist and release, contract and release, and traction. Studies indicate that PNF twice per week can substantially improve athletic performance.</image:caption>

<image:title>FNMT - Deep Tissue</image:title>
<image:caption>This modality focuses on specific joints and muscles to relieve pain, increase range of motion, improve structural alignment and balance. Muscles and connective tissues are lengthened, broadened, and separated with direct pressure and deep friction that breaks up intramuscular tissue adhesions. Contrary to popular belief, this massage is not painful.</image:caption>

<image:title>FNMT - Passive Stretch Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Sometimes called “Lazy Man’s Yoga,” this modality gently and progressively stretches muscles to decrease contraction in inactive muscles and increase joint range of motion. It is highly effective in treating snapping hip, frozen shoulder, and improving athletic performance.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Us - Jim Moretz PhD</image:title>
<image:caption>LMBT# 17526 I have done quite a few things in my life. I co-founded a Civil Engineering firm with my father in the early 1990's. Then I spent 20 years in ministry. In 2010, I founded a nonprofit thrift store, The Penny Centre, in Candler NC. I have a PhD in Biblical Studies and Embodied Cognitive Philosophy from the University of Manchester (UK). I became a massage therapist in 2018 and co-founded RPM Neuromuscular Therapy with Katt on January 1st, 2021. With RPM, I have blended my PhD research in Embodied Cognition with Neuromuscular Massage Therapy to create a dynamic approach to treating muscle and joint pain. I combine sound and rhythm with Neuromuscular techniques such as traction, oscillation, passive range of motion, and acupressure to relieve muscle tension and retrain a client's mind/body awareness. I am interested to further Massage Therapy research and treatment along these lines to help make MT a first-level intervention for muscle and joint dysfunction. Some of my favorites: Movies: Logan Lucky, Groundhog Day, Sergeant York, John Wick Series Books: Too many to list, but Oliver Twist and Mind & Cosmos, stand out! Historic Figures: George Washington & Daniel Boone Hobbies: Research (I am a complete nerd!), hunting, and fishing.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Us - Jaraud Morris</image:title>
<image:caption>LMBT# 21583 An athlete who suffers a sports injury potentially faces a difficult road of healing to return to the athletic lifestyle they love. I found myself in that exact predicament after a calcaneal rupture in 2020. After hitting a dead end with traditional avenues of recovery, I began searching for a therapy that would provide sustained relief. Someone suggested medical massage and I experienced pain relief at the first visit. Throughout my treatments, I discovered a drive to learn more and the desire to provide the same kind of relief for others. The healing I experienced helped pave the way into a future I had not pictured for myself before. After graduating and receiving my license, I trained with Jim Moretz in the RPM method of neuromuscular massage therapy. I enjoy working with clients, figuring how best to relieve their pain and promote healing. I am confident in my healing abilities. As a massage therapist my goal is to ensure that you get off of my table feeling better and optimistic in your recovery than before you got on. Happy healing! Some of my favorites: Movies: Higher Learning, Inception, Matrix Books: The 5 Love Languages, Think & Grow Rich, Mamba Mentality Historic figures: Malcolm X, Bob Marley, Kobe Bryant Hobbies: Boxing, Basketball, Painting</image:caption>

<image:title>About Us - Allison Pecca</image:title>
<image:caption>LMBT# 23088 For years, I’ve battled chronic pain, and I’ve watched many people I care about reach their breaking points in their own healing journeys. While traditional approaches have been essential, they often fall short when it comes to providing relief beyond pharmaceuticals and surgeries. My turning point came when I experienced a transformative massage from a truly skilled therapist. It was at that moment that I realized the profound power of touch and soft tissue manipulation. Through my studies in therapeutic massage, I’ve learned how to better support my own healing process and, in turn, help others navigate a wide range of conditions and challenges. I find myself both excited and humbled by the support and complementary condition management that massage therapy offers. If I can provide even brief relief from the daily struggle with pain and limited movement, I consider it meaningful work—work to which I am deeply committed. My practice is grounded in the intention to compassionately guide the body back to its natural ability to restore balance when given the right support. I would be truly honored to work with you on your healing journey and help you achieve your goals along the way. Some of my favorites: Movies: White Oleander, The Fountain, Stranger than Fiction Books: The Alchemist/Paulo Coelho, From the Corner of His Eye/Dean Koontz, Perfume; story of a murder Historic Figures: Nelson Mandela, Alan Watts, Rumi Hobbies: Road Trips with my husband, Watercolor, Macrame</image:caption>

<image:caption>I am a college student at UNCW majoring in Criminology and minoring in Forensic Science. I was constantly moving and exercising back in high school being involved with the color guard. After no longer having that to keep me active, I decided to delve into the world of yoga! At UNCW's Yoga Club I discovered a passion for this form of movement. I saw how yoga helped me, and so many others around me, with issues ranging from physical limitations to mental and emotional stress. It was through this instruction I learned the importance of finding your flow. My goal is to keep mobility fluid and movements comfortable and yielding. I love being in an environment where I get to work with others who are looking to better themselves as I am. It is so important to keep moving and to find some form of exercise to keep your joints and muscles healthy. I am passionate about helping people and by sharing my love for yoga and stretching, I can do just that!
